MY DEBUT NOVEL IS OUT NOW!!
It has taken me 46 years, but I now have a novel out, “Normal or Nothing Like It”. It’s very exciting, even though COVID managed to ruin all my plans. You see, I planned to launch this book in style. Now I’m kicking myself a little. The book was ready for release a couple of months back, but I held it off. It was my birthday on July 1 and I wanted to launch it on that day. I had to cancel a planned birthday party last year because of COVID, so thought I would do it this year with the book.
I had booked a café in Penrith for the launch / birthday party on July 1, and then the week later was going to do a Melbourne launch at the amazing Hares and Hyenas in Melbourne. As the first case hit Sydney; I just knew what was going to happen, and as the days went on and the numbers went up, I knew my plans were dust. Disappointing, but I know so many people had amazing events and plans they had to cancel. Onwards and upwards as they say.
The book still came out and I am so fortunate that people have started buying it. It means so much that people spend their hard-earned cash on my book. And even better, people are enjoying it. I can’t tell you how nervous I was before the release. I’ve done theatre, film and television. But literature is something new. And it’s a new writing style for me, I am known as a dialogue writer, so this was new experience. Waiting to hear what people thought has been agonising, but people have been loving it so far. Of course, I understand it won’t be everyone, but that’s okay, some people have loved it – and that is what makes me happy. Thanks to those reaching out with their kind words, it brings me so much joy.
This has inspired to get ready to publish my next work. Years ago I wrote a novel, “Electricity”, a YA sci-fi book. I was happy with it and tried to get it published, and the process was heart breaking. I left it behind, thinking it was best to walk away. It’s time I pull it back out. Starting tomorrow I am going to start a new edit and then publish it. I went down the self-publishing route for “Normal or Nothing Like It” and am really happy I did it. Time to get my actual first novel out. I have always been a, “Just Do It”, kind of guy, time to be him again.
So here’s the thing, I ordered a lot of books (and merchandise – though I don’t want to post mugs, totes are fine). I was expecting to sell them at the launches and with going to the classes I teach. We are now looking at an extended lockdown in Sydney. I have sold a lot of books already, which is great. Would love to sell some more. They can be posted anywhere in Australia. $20 for the book (signed and/or dedicated), with $10 delivery. Send me an email if you would like to order: wayne@tunks.com.au
They are great presents and a great read. Hope you can help out by ordering a book. Look at these legends below with their copies. Hope you’ll have a read too and enjoy these 16 stories I wrote from my heart.
